Saving Private Ryan: What Separates a Hero From a Bystander?
June 30, 2021
PRIVACY AND FREEDOM
“Our heroes are men who do things which we recognize, with regret, and sometimes with a secret shame, that we cannot do. We find not much in ourselves to admire, we are always privately wanting to be like somebody else. If everybody was satisfied with himself, there would be no heroes.” – Mark Twain

I served in the USAF. When i watch war movies, i generally am awed by what heroism i See. I would like to believe that i could do what they did if put in the same situation, but you truly never know. My one consolation, is that, by serving, I know that I might have at least had a chance to be like them. For us REMFs, we see them as heroes, too! God bless all of my brothers and sisters who wore the uniform! we all beat from the same heart! Kevin D. Massey USAF 1975-1981.
